Bristol Hospital Ball Raises More Than $100,000 for New Sleep Center

Bristol, CT (November 17, 2011)- The Bristol Hospital Development Foundation held its annual Ball on Saturday, October 29th to raise funds for the new Bristol Hospital Sleep Center.  Despite the unseasonable and historic winter storm Alfred, the Ball raised more than $100,000 in support of the new center.
The “Out of Africa” Ball was held at the Aqua Turf Club in Plantsville, CT and was hosted by Jerry Kristafer of 102.9 DRC-FM.  The presenting sponsor of the event was Norris, McLaughlin & Marcus, P.A., Attorneys at Law, with media sponsor 102.9 DRC-FM.

In spite of Storm Alfred’s wrath, 180 guests attended the Ball (out of the 383 who purchased tickets), which raised significant funds through its silent and live auctions, individual contributions, and sponsorships.  Some of the highest bid live auction items included an African Safari for two, and a trip to a private luxury home in Costa Rica.  The evening also featured exclusive silent auction items including wine packages, travel experiences, culinary delights, and tickets to shows, concerts, and sporting events.
The event’s honorary co-chairmen Dr. Kenneth Rhee, President of the Bristol Hospital Medical Staff, and Dr. Brimal B. Patel, Medical Director of the Bristol Hospital Sleep Center hosted the festivities. “Historical Storm Alfred did not dampen the spirits of the Ball.  Guests came for a fun night, great food, and one-of-a-kind auction items; they were not disappointed”, said Dr. Rhee.

Attending guests were entertained with a live African drum floor show, and dancing to the band “Bock & Blu”, while enjoying an African inspired menu. A fun photo booth, theme d├ęcor, and the one-of-a-kind silent and live auction items added to the excitement.

Unused food resulting from the lower than expected attendance numbers was donated to the Calendar House shelter in Southington.
Proceeds from the Ball benefit the new Bristol Hospital Sleep Center which provides comprehensive sleep evaluations to patients throughout the community with sleeprelated illnesses. The Sleep Center is open and accepting patient referrals.  The Sleep Center can be reached at 860-585-3300.

Contributions are graciously accepted for the new Sleep Center and can be sent to the Bristol Hospital Development Foundation, 145 Queen Street, Bristol, CT 06010, by calling 860-585-3565, or made online at
