Bristol Hospital Receives $50,000 Donation from MAXIMILIAN E. & MARION O. HOFFMAN FOUNDATION

9/3/2009
Bristol, CT (9/3/09) – Bristol Hospital has received a $50,000 gift from Maximilian E. & Marion O. Hoffman Foundation, Inc. to help fund The Beekley Center for Breast Health and Wellness at Bristol Hospital, its new comprehensive breast care center. This generous gift comes on the heels of a recent combined donation of $1 million from the Beekley Corporation and the Beekley Family Foundation. The gift was presented to Eva Wickwire, Bristol Hospital’s Chief Development Officer, at the Hoffman Foundation in West Hartford.

The Beekley Center for Breast Health and Wellness at Bristol Hospital, a comprehensive and multi-disciplinary breast care center, will offer a full spectrum of clinical and support services, from screening and diagnosis to treatment and counseling. The Center will support the Planetree model of care that provides a patient-centered holistic approach to health care - promoting mental, emotional, spiritual, social and physical healing for patients and their families. Preliminary plans for the new breast health center have already begun with the arrival of Bristol Hospital’s new digital mammography equipment. Completion of the Center is anticipated in the spring of 2011.

"We are very happy to support the new breast health center at Bristol Hospital and pleased that we can make a difference with this contribution," stated Marion Barrak, President of the Maximilian E. & Marion O. Hoffman Foundation, Inc.

The development of the Beekley Center for Breast Health and Wellness comes as a logical progression of Bristol Hospital’s focus on cancer care with the recent opening of Bristol Hospital’s new Cancer Care Center. The Cancer Care Center is affiliated with the Yale-New Haven Cancer Network, which has provided for the expansion and advancement of Bristol Hospital’s cancer services to patients and their families in the communities served by Bristol Hospital. This partnership with the Yale-New Haven Cancer Network also provides access to clinical resources, preventive and curative clinical research trials, and other support services from Yale-New Haven Hospital, the Yale School of Medicine and the Yale Cancer Center. The Cancer Care Center has also recently expanded its clinical staff with the recent addition of two new female oncologists, Dr. Sapna Khubchandani, and Dr. Driola Brahaj.

"This tremendous gift will go a long way to make the Beekley Center for Breast Health and Wellness a reality for our community,” commented Eva Wickwire, Chief Development Officer for the Bristol Hospital Development Foundation.
