Library Services for Brisol Hospital
Affiliated Health Professionals
Holdings
The library houses a core books collection which includes titles in the fields of medicine, nursing, allied health, health administration, and consumer health. Selected health sciences journals holdings cover the last five years. Five years of MEDLINE and all of CINAHL are available on CD-ROM in the library and at other locations via the hospital network. The library's two enduser workstations provide access to these databases, the internet, and standard office applications.
Literature searches
Requests may be made for selected articles or bibliography of articles, with or without abstracts, on a particular topic, such as a disease or syndrome, clinical situation, therapy, new drug, patient management, etc. The search may be on current literature only or retrospective. National Library of Medicine databases, the internet, and other sources may be searched.
Retrieval of articles
Full text of any article cited in a literature search or in a bibliography from another source may be obtained, either from our own collection or from our network of affiliated libraries. Same-day FAX service is available for urgent patient care situations. Otherwise, requests will be filled within 24 hours, if available in-house; otherwise 5 to 6 working days may be needed.
Selective Dissemination of Information (SDI) searches
If you would like to follow the literature on a particular topic of interest, you may request a monthly update of all new articles published on the topic. This is similar to a standing order; it will be routed to you automatically each month until you cancel your request.
Tables of contents
The tables of contents of new journals can be routed to your physician mailbox or hospital mailbox.
Interlibrary Loan
Books and audiovisual materials can be borrowed for you from other libraries. You may request a specific title, or ask for a list of titles on any subject.
Research
If you are preparing a presentation or an article for publication, you can receive assistance from the library in developing a bibliography and following publisher guidelines.
Continuing education
The NCME videotape series, approved for category one CME credit, may be borrowed.
