Who should see a Registered Dietitian (RD)?
Special nutrition needs require a dietitian. A Registered Dietitian (RD) is an expert in nutrition and disease who can teach you how to tailor your eating habits to help you manage or improve your medical condition. Through individualized nutrition counseling appointments, an RD will help you develop a healthful eating plan tailored to your food choices and lifestyle. Nutrition counseling can be beneficial for people with the following health concerns:
Cancer treatment and recovery
Cardiovascular (heart) disease
Digestive (GI) disorders
Food allergies and intolerances
High Blood Pressure
Kidney or liver disorders
Weight management, adult and pediatric
How long does each visit take?
The initial visit usually takes one hour, while follow-up visits are typically 30 minutes. Some people are satisfied with the information they receive in one visit. However, most people require at least one follow-up visit to review the progress of their nutrition goals and address question or concerns. Making changes is hard, and we are here to help with encouragement and guidance.
Making an appointment
A physician referral is required to see an RD. Your physician can fax the referral to centralized scheduling at (860) 585-3743. The referral should include the reason for the visit (ICD-code) and any other pertinent information about your condition. After a referral is received, centralized scheduling will contact you for an appointment. You may also change or cancel your appointment through centralized scheduling by calling (860)-585-3020.
Before your visit, please contact your insurance company to see if you have Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) benefits. Insurance coverage for MNT will vary by plan. Please check with your insurance provider before your first visit so you will know how many visits are allowed.

The Healing Power of Touch
Massage therapy, reflexology and reiki are health practices and remedies that have been used for centuries. They are hands-on therapies that encourage the body to heal itself, but they should never be used as replacements for medical treatment. They should be used as a complement and a way to become and remain healthy.
