Pediatric Care at Bristol Hospital
Bristol Hospital is one of the only community hospitals in Connecticut to have a 24 hour/7 day a week pediatric hosp9talist program for our young patients. Pediatric hospitalists are physicians who care for children in all areas of the hospital. They are present for all births and provide newborn care in our Families Are First unit. They can provide inpatient care for children of any age. Our pediatric hospitalists are all Fellows of the Academy of Pediatrics and are trained in neonatal resuscitation and advanced pediatric life support.
In early 2006, a special ribbon-cutting ceremony was held to commemorate the re-opening of the Michael James LaPlume Memorial Pediatric Unit on the Level G extension and attended by area pediatricians, members of the medical staff, pediatric hospitalists, clinical staff and hospital leadership.
Bristol Hospital also entered into a formal partnership agreement with Connecticut Children's Medical Center in Spring 2006. The affiliation agreement provides a link for with Bristol Hospital and its community physicians to continuing medical education in pediatric health from Connecticut Children's, and to 24-hour consultation services and medical staff privileges. Our relationship with CCMC means that we are truly "Partners In Children's Health." With this affiliation, we are able to bring specialized pediatric care closer to the communities where our young patients live. Access to high quality pediatric care in our community allows children and their families to remain closer to home.
