Sharing your compassion, talents and expertise is what makes becoming a volunteer at Bristol Hospital a rewarding experience. The volunteers are an integral part of operations at Bristol Hospital and help to create a comforting environment for our patients and families.
Adult Volunteer Program
The Adult Volunteer program is designed to engage volunteers seven days a week. Adult Volunteers usually work shifts of two to four hours per day and may work one or more days/evenings per week depending on scheduling needs. Assignments are determined based on skills, personality and interests.

- Ambulatory Surgery/Pre-Admission Testing
- Cancer Program
- Coffee Cart
- Development Foundation
- Discharge Service
- Education
- Emergency Department
- Evening Nourishment
- Food Services
- Gift Shop
- Hospice Volunteer
- Information Desk
- Library Services
- Pain Management
- Pastoral Care
- Patient-Focused Care Unit
- Patient Guide Service/Meeter-Greeter
- Patient Partner Assistant
- Public Relations
- Radiology
The Adult Volunteers also participate in these special programs:
Dog Visitation Program - Dog visitation team applicants undergo special testing and training to provide this service.
Reiki Program - Volunteers must be Reiki certified to participate in this
hands on complementary option that promotes relaxation, comfort, and accelerates healing.
Tender Touch Program - Volunteers are trained by a hospital massage therapist to provide hand and foot massages to our patients.
The Junior Volunteer Program offers two programs:
- The Academic Year Program is coordinated with high school students making it possible for them to gain valuable experience in the hospital setting. The Junior Volunteers report to the hospital after school and work until 5:00.
- The Summer Junior Volunteer Program is designed to provide the Junior Volunteers with meaningful experience and to explore different careers in healthcare. The Junior Volunteers work from 8:30 - 4:00, Monday through Friday.
The Junior Volunteers are assigned to work in most departments within the hospital. This program provides invaluable experience for young adults.
