For Mental Health Emergencies

Crisis Center

The Crisis Center is an area of the Emergency Department reserved for those with serious mental health issues, such as those who have attempted or threatened suicide or who are having a psychotic episode.

Immediate Care for Those in Crisis

Part of our recent Emergency Department expansion, the Crisis Center provides the monitoring and immediate treatment you need. The center cares for you until you can be admitted to the hospital or released.

The Crisis Center Provides:

A Calming and Comforting Setting

The sights and sounds of an emergency room can be stressful under the best circumstances. For those dealing with a mental health emergency, they can be overwhelming and agitating. Having a discrete area with four designated treatment rooms provides a separation from other emergencies to ease stress and help keep you calm.

Immediate Evaluation and Care

The Crisis Center streamlines the process of evaluating and stabilizing mental health patients, to help relieve your suffering and ensure your safety. The team includes psychiatrists, psychiatric nurses and other professionals who are experienced in helping those in crisis.

Monitoring and Safety

The Crisis Center cares for mental health patients until they can be admitted for inpatient care or released. We keep you safe and secure and as comfortable as possible while you are in our care.

Who may need to utilize crisis services:

Those who feel they are unsafe at home, are feeling like harming themselves, or someone else

Those who are facing alcohol dependence and withdrawal symptoms

Those who are affiliated with the Bristol Hospital Counseling Center and are experiencing increased symptoms that require stabilization and/or treatment

Those who have experienced anything they consider a crisis

Those who have experienced any type of abuse or trauma, recent loss, complicated grief, sexual, physical, or emotional abuse and do not feel safe

Compassion and Respect

We understand that people who are in a mental health crisis have a clinical condition. We treat every patient the way we would want our own family to be treated – with compassion, respect and understanding.
