What is pulmonary rehabilitation?
Pulmonary rehabilitation is a program that provides education, emotional support and an individualized exercise program for patients with pulmonary function diseases. Various methods are used that will help you to manage your symptoms and achieve a more active life.
Who should attend the pulmonary rehabilitation program?
If you have chronic bronchitis, emphysema, asthma or other pulmonary problems and require education, smoking cessation, counseling, assistance with daily activities, and an individualized exercise program, pulmonary rehabilitation is for you.
Who are the members of the pulmonary rehabilitation team?
The members of the pulmonary rehab team include: a registered nurse, a registered dietitian, and your doctor.
How does the program work?
The program consists of group sessions. Sessions are scheduled on Tuesdays & Thursdays at 11am and 1pm at Bristol Hospital. If these times are not convenient the staff will try to accommodate another class time. During your session you will learn about:
Basic lung function
Understanding lung disease and medications
Breathing retraining and bronchial hygiene
The physical aspects of coping with shortness of breath
Medication delivery systems and equipment considerations
What is the cost?
Our program accepts most insurances. Once we receive your physician referral, our insurance specialist will contact your insurance company to coordinate payment for your services. Most commercial insurance companies cover all or part of the program.
Starting the program is easy!
To be enrolled in our pulmonary rehabilitation program, your physician must send us a referral. After your physician office contacts the pulmonary rehabilitation department, you will be contacted to set up your first appointment.
